Welcome to Inside the Library!
There are two librarians working on this blog, Courtney and Ashley. Their main focus is to better incorporate the Library into the community. So here is a bit of information about them.
Courtney is a Circulation Clerk, who takes pride in reading along with writing. She has recently graduated from Purdue with a degree in English. She is looking forward to getting into Graduate School for Creative Writing. Courtney believes that reading is good for the soul and is great in any kind of weather–snowy, rainy, warm, or cold. Courtney plans on becoming a Creative Writing Professor. Her favorite Authors include J.K. Rowling, Tess Gerritsen, Robert Frost, and Edgar Allan Poe. Some of her favorite books include: Harry Potter, Tales of Beedle the Bard (mostly because of the Tale of the Three Brothers), Stephen King’s On Writing–she finds this entirely too hard to answer because she has so many! According to her Goodreads account it says she has 417 books on her “to read” page. She completely believes that reading betters writing. Courtney’s favorite quote is:
“I believe that I will die next to a pile of things I’ve been meaning to read.” ~Lemony Snicket.
Ashley is also a Circulation Clerk. She is a Bachelor of Arts Major with a focus in Studio Arts. After college, Ashley wants travel and visiting as many national parks and photograph her experience. Her favorite author is J.A. Jance. Ashley’s favorite books include: The Hunger Games, I Am Malala, and Not That Kind of Girl. Ashley wants to be a Curator of a public museum and/or own her own gallery to host new and up coming artists. Ashley’s favorite quote is:
“I used to think I was the strangest person in the world, but then I thought there are so many people in the world. There must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would love to imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me, too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it’s true I’m here, and I’m just as strange as you.” ~ Frida Kahlo
What this blog will include is an array of things. Book reviews, displays, some of our current new books, etc. To start off, Ashley and Courtney will be reading and reviewing Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. We’ve been told that it is a great read, and just by the first chapter–it sounds like it! We are open to recommendations for books to read and review; as well as display ideas!
Currently our display consists of: Pokemon, Superheros, “Our Favorites,” and Science Fiction. Youth Services’ Y.A.K. (Young Adult Council) put together a Harry Potter display to show off Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, along with the announcement of the illustrated version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets that came out October 4th. You can see these displays on our Instagram page: valpolibrary. There’s also a link below!
Welcome and enjoy!
